Job Introduction
We are looking for a permanent Band 6 Specialist Children's Occupational Therapist to join our Community Children’s Therapy Team in West Essex, covering Uttlesford, Harlow and Epping Forest.
You will join our award winning Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service, where we are trail blazing a new integrated partnership model with Barnardo’s; a model that drives efficiencies so we can put more people in our services, spending time with children and families to improve health outcomes in the local community.
As a Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for a caseload of children in the Epping Forest area, working at universal, targeted and specialist levels.
You’ll work closely with our team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants, within a diverse multidisciplinary team with other dedicated staff as part of our innovative Child and Family Wellbeing Service.
You will benefit from the support of friendly and inclusive colleagues and access regular supervision with a Band 7 Occupational Therapist.
Main Responsibilities
You will carry a mixed complex caseload, of children aged 0-19 years, delivering specialist interventions across a range of areas.
You will work in settings including schools, community clinics/hubs, homes and special schools, providing a high standard of child centred service delivery, in line with best practice.
- Assess, differentially diagnose, formulate treatment plans (in collaboration with patients and carers), write assessment reports, identify and choose appropriate therapeutic or clinical management techniques from a range of options, provide appropriate therapeutic intervention and evaluate treatment outcomes
- Provide advice on patient care to other health, social care, educational and voluntary sector services. This may involve visiting other establishments such as the child’s home, mainstream and special schools, nurseries and specialist clinics.
- Provide complex and sensitive information to patients in a manner that they can understand e.g. regarding developmental challenges and management.
- Assess for, recommend, source and train patient and carers in the use of specialist equipment as required, both in the child’s home and school.

The Ideal Candidate

You will be a qualified Occupational Therapist with HCPC registration and a minimum of two years post graduate practice in paediatrics, with experience of working with children and young people in the community.
- You will have strong communication and organisation skills and a flexible approach will ensure you deliver positive experiences to service users at every stage of their healthcare journey.
- As this is a community role, it is essential that you hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes.
