Job Introduction

Community Phlebotomist - Grade 2

Swindon North Neighborhood Team

37.5 Hours Per Week – Permanent 

Are you passionate about patient care and looking to make a meaningful impact in your local community? We’re seeking a dedicated and compassionate Community Phlebotomist to join our friendly and supportive Swindon Community Team.

As a key member of our team, you’ll provide a high-quality venepuncture service to adult patients across the community. You’ll work independently, visiting patients in their homes or designated clinics, ensuring samples are collected safely, efficiently, and with a reassuring bedside manner.

Main Responsibilities

This post is responsible for

  • Entering patients details accurately on the phlebotomy SystmOne
  • Checking patient demographics as per HCRG Policy, prior to procedure, ensuring request forms are completed accurately.
  • Explain procedure and put Patient at ease, thus gaining implied consent.
  • Perform venepuncture using protocols as stated in the phlebotomy policy.
  • Ensure blood samples are accurately labelled with patient identifiable demographics as per HCRG policy.
  • Ensure laboratries are provided with timely, high quality blood specimens taken in tubes that are appropriate for the tests requested. 
  • Ensure patient has recovered sufficiently before leaving the patients home.


The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Phlebotomy – achieved competency
  • Understand the principles of patient confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the importance and relevance of phlebotomy in the deliverance of patient care
  • Good general education
  • Good interpersonal skills and to be able to communicate with patients and healtcare professionals
  • Competent, professional and polite manner
  • Car driver essential with access to a vehicle to include Business insurance
